I can't believe that our little girl is already two weeks old! It has flown by- I can't believe how quickly time flies with a newborn. A lot has happened in this short period of time. I did not get around to making a one week post, so I'll combine both weeks in this one.
Here are her pictures at one week and two weeks.
Here's how she's been doing...
Feeding- She is exclusively breastfeeding. It has been going pretty well. Lately she has had a HUGE appetite (sometimes eating every hour). I feel like this is my new full time job but I really enjoy doing it (most of the time!). I have been really thankful that she is a good eater.
Sleeping- As with all newborns, this varies every night. Some nights she will wake up every 3-4 hours to feed. I LOVE these nights. Other nights, she wakes up much more frequently. We have absolutely no routine yet, which I think is to be expected at this age. She really likes her sound machine bear to lull her to sleep after feeding. We are borrowing my aunt and uncle's bassinet that rocks. This has been helpful in the night also. I have been surprised at how awake I am during the day. Before Avery, I needed my sleep big time. Now, I haven't been near as tired as I thought that I would be at this point. I am definitely not saying that I feel refreshed every morning, but it hasn't been awful! Billy took this week off, and I started pumping so that he could do one feeding at night. This has been amazing! It's crazy how much one feeding makes a difference in how I feel in the morning. I really appreciate this!
Weight- When we left the hospital, Avery dropped from 6 lb 8 oz to 6 pounds 0 oz. We went to our Pediatrician 6 days after she was born, and she weighed 6 lb 1 oz. At today's visit, she was up to 6 lb 7 oz. Our goal was to get back to her birth weight by today so we missed it by just 1 oz! Avery became starving as we were waiting in the room. Billy and I talked about how if I had just fed her, she probably would have surpassed this weight. She also had a big blowout in her diaper right before her weigh in so that would have added some ounces too! Oh well! We go back in two weeks to recheck her weight. Hopefully, she'll make huge progress from now until then!
Jaundice-Avery was looking a little yellow/orange at around one week old, and I became an incredibly anxious mom for the first time (since she had been born, not counting pregnancy!). We had a photographer come to our house when she was five days old. She told us that Avery looked really yellow and that she didn't know if the pictures would turn out because of this. She kept talking about her jaundice throughout the photo shoot so I got really worried. We had put her in indirect sunlight and I was feeding her as much as I could so there was really nothing else that I could do. It turned out that when we went to the Pediatrician, he was not worried at all and just said that she had minor Jaundice that would resolve on its own. Nothing to worry about.

Another attempt- this is one of my favorite pictures! She loves being outside.
Hiccups are one of Avery's enemies! She gets them all the time. She was making this pathetic face one night when she had them.
It has been a great first two weeks! We have enjoyed every minute of it. It's amazing how much time I can spend just looking at all the details of her face and her expressions. We love her so much and are so thankful that she is here and healthy!
Soooooooooooo cute!!!
ReplyDeleteGive her a hug for me!
