Goodbye Surfside

Two Saturdays ago, we took our last trip up to Surfside to spend the day at the beachhouse that holds so many memories for me. My Granny owned this beachhouse, and I remember going up there all the time when we were little. It was named Granny's Girls, and it was a really special place to go.
My cousin, Courtney, Kelly, my dark haired dad, and me on one of our many trips down there.

My Granny went to Heaven when I was in high school, and my parents got the beachhouse. I remember going there for birthday parties when younger, on weekends with my sisters and Granny, after Prom, with friends in college, and with Avery once she was born.
There were a lot of changes over the past few years that required the house to be moved and the need for it to be rented throughout the summer. We weren't able to use the beachhouse during the peak months due to renters constantly being there, and my parents decided to put the house on the market recently. It just sold and my family spent one last day together down there.

We went down to the beach which happened to be hugely crowded with surfers.  We must have gone down at high tide because the water was coming up very close to us.  Our fun was short lived because the water came up to where we were sitting and Avery thought it was going to take her with it.  There may have been some tears involved.  The beach was a little less beautiful than I remember, and our less than perfect playtime made the sale of the beach house a little easier :).

After naps, or lack thereof by some, we played some games, took some pics, and ate some yummy dinner on the deck.

I'm so glad that we were able to go up there one last time.  It was good closure.  I realized after the trip that what made the place so special was definitely not how nice the house or beach was.  The memories are what made it special.  Now we will just have to make new memories somewhere else!
